ID Verification requests - Why? Is it Safe?
At Footy Addicts, creating a safe and trusted community is our top priority. In some cases, we may ask players to complete an ID verification before they can continue using certain features of the platform.
Why do we ask for ID?
We only request ID in specific situations where it is necessary to protect the community, such as:
-
Community safety: if a player has been reported for abusive or unsafe behaviour, we may require ID to confirm they are who they say they are.
-
Fraud prevention: if we detect suspicious payment activity (e.g. use of stolen cards or multiple fake accounts), ID verification helps us protect both you and other members.
Is it legitimate?
Yes. ID verification is a common and legally recognised way to keep online platforms safe. We rely on legitimate interest under data protection law to verify identities when safety or fraud risks arise.
What information is requested?
You may be asked to provide a government-issued ID (such as a passport or driving licence) and a quick selfie to confirm it’s really you.
How do we handle your information?
-
We use Stripe Identity, a trusted and secure third-party provider, to process ID checks.
-
All sensitive documents are handled by Stripe – we never store copies of your ID on our servers.
-
We only keep a simple verification status (e.g. “verified” or “failed”), not your documents.
Your privacy and safety are equally important to us. By verifying identities when risks arise, we help ensure that games remain a fun, fair, and secure environment for everyone.
